I would like to give some feedback on my recent operation at Torbay hospital. I cannot imagine how my experience could have been better and I only feel sorry I have taken a couple of weeks to write this and don't remember the key names. Over Xmas I had a fast-growing abscess on my chest. I had tried antibiotics and those seemed not work. When I next saw my GP, he immediately referred me to Torbay hospital. I arrived and was triaged within a few minutes. Then a doctor saw me, who showed real kindness and compassion, once she saw the abscess. After the pain I had been in for weeks, that was just what I needed. I then saw her boss, who had the same attitude and provided a very clear assessment of the options. A very helpful man then did an xray. I then saw the surgeon, who gave a very clear assessment of the likely problem and how we should proceed, again giving me confidence that at last the problem would be dealt with. I then was given the general anaesthetic and woke up to a lovely nurse explaining what happened and what the next steps were. I was taken up to Allerton ward, where a nurse offered me some food. I wasn't hungry and she said that should I get hungry later I should let her know. At about 10:30pm I realised I was famished. I felt a bit guilty with it being so late, but asked if she could bring something small. She listed what they had, stopping halfway through to go and bring me a selection of lots of things to eat. Again, it was so kind that I felt very cared for. Next to me was an older and fairly immobile chap, who seemed to think he was in a hotel and would try to get up. The nurses were incredibly patient each time this happened and would explain the same to him every hour or so. I was so impressed with their patience. This is a very brief summmary of my experience in the hospital. I could easily add to it, but I wanted to make sure you received this feedback on how amazing the combination of compassion and structured support was, which I experienced from everyone who had a touchpoint with me.
"Amazing treatment"
