"The care received at the Department of Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiology"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Respiratory Medicine

(as a parent/guardian),

After many months of hospital appointments and investigations with no diagnosis, my daughter was referred to the Laura - the exercise physiologist working within the Department of Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiology, in Edinburgh.

Laura and her team provided the most excellent care from the offset. In clinic, Laura was very knowledgable and professional in her role. She immediately formed a bond with my daughter getting the best from her, during the assessments. Following our initial contact I was provided with a contact number for herself and the team, to be used at any time for queries or any issues which was very reassuring.

A plan was set out indicating the appropriate tests that would take place and appointment times given. From these, it was clear that an additional test was required outwith the area. Unfortunately there was some difficulty obtaining availability for this test.  Laura and Taylor (the service coordinator) continued to pursue this, giving regular updates via phone and email and finally managed to secure a date.

From this test, a diagnosis has been made and treatment has been identified. We remain in contact with Laura and Taylor as more tests will be required following this treatment. I have taken the time to write this as I feel they both need to be recognised for the excellent care they have provided. We are extremely grateful.

Dear Leanne86534,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your story and feedback on this platform. It has been a pleasure to have been part of your daughter's care, and I am delighted that a diagnosis has now been identified and treatment will now follow.

I completely understand the stress for your daughter and your family in recent months, particularly with challenges around securing a date for further testing out-with the area, and I am sorry this was the case. I am glad that we were able to make a very stressful situation that little bit better for you, and that your daughter was able to access the care we had hoped.

I will ensure Taylor (our Clinical Co-Ordinator) and the rest of the team sees this feedback. I am very appreciative you have taken the time to share kind words on your experience and the care you and your daughter have received.

Best wishes

Laura Jess,

Head of Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiology
