"I knew I was in the right place"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Acute Medical Initial Assessment Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Cardiology / Coronary Care Unit

(as a service user),

Experienced my first (hopefully last) heart attack at work on the Monday, not immediately evident I had had a Heart Attack, went to see GP next day who did an ECG (came back normal) but she sent me to ARI triage where they did a blood test. This confirmed I had had a heart attack and from there the ball was rolling.

Of course I was nervous and yes, scared but immediately I was put at ease by the staff in both wards 101 and 106.

Their teamwork, humour, honesty and openness really did put me at ease, I knew I was in the right place.

Everyone -  the surgeon, cardiologists, nurses, doctors, radiographers, cleaning staff, porters - was supremely friendly and helpful, open for a laugh and tremendous examples of healthcare professionals.

The shadow they all cast is one of utmost integrity and care, empathy and efficiency, control and confidence, honesty and quality.

This all being said, I really hope to never have to visit them again.

They saved my life, I can now spend more time with my niece, my dog, friends and family, what they do is a beautiful thing, no two ways about it.

Dear Gary235,

Many thanks for taking the time to write such a lovely care opinion about your experience. I will ensure this is shared with the team in 101, where I cover. I know how much this will mean to them to read this.

I hope you are recovering well and enjoy that time with your family, dog and your friends.

Take care

Julie
