"Amazing care from everyone"

About: Neurosciences (DCN) / Neurology Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / High Dependency Unit & Intensive Care Unit Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Xrays and scans

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was transferred from the Borders General to RIE after presenting in NORSE and needed specialist input. She was admitted to critical care in ward 116 base D initially where the neurologists and critical care doctors worked so hard behind the scenes but also available and keeping me informed on their thoughts and decisions (sorry for all the tears!) I am so thankful for you all working your socks off and your amazing knowledge that eventually got my daughter home.

Words cannot describe the nurses….they are literally angels! Having my daughter so far from home in an unknown hospital was daunting but I was so reassured by this inspiring team and knew she was in the best hands. Nicola was the first face i properly met on the ward and the one who made me realise what special people my daughter had looking after her. Charlotte who gave my daughter her spa treatments on her night shifts was just amazing and knew it’s what any young teenage girl would appreciate in such time of need, Laura who gave my daughter and my young son a jelly cat each to help him through such a scary process - it was honestly the most thoughtful idea. It really helped him through those long nights. There are so many of you that played a part and will not be forgotten.

The labs and the radiologists who all worked fast to get results back to the consultants, the last minute MRI slots will forever be appreciated as time is of the essence in these situations. The anaesthetic team who ensured my daughter a priority, where possible, transferring her to the scanners (there was plenty trips!)

Ward 231 - what a beautiful ward! So clean and bright. The staff were pleasant and gave my daughter excellent care including giving her some independence back.

The domestics in both wards 116 and 231 were just lovely smiley people and both areas were spotless!

The input was rapid with physiotherapist and speech and language when my daughter required them during her stay and it honestly improved things so quickly. What valuable services these are!

Overall I feel I owe NHS Lothian so much after giving me my daughter back. It is because of everyone involved she had the best outcome and is recovering at home. Working for NHS myself I fully understand the pressures that are faced but I honestly can’t fault my daughter’s time at RIE. What a credit to the NHS service!

Thank you so much for your kind feedback, its so lovely to hear that you had such a positive experience in RIE Critical Care and will ensure that this is shared with all of the team. We always strive to ensure we deliver a high standard of care and having you feedback on your positive experience with us means a lot to the staff. Its great to hear that your daughter had an element of her person centred care delivered in the form of spa treatments which was important for her wellbeing and recovery. Wishing your daughter all the best in her on going recovery now that she is home.

best wishes

Brenda

Dear ALH86

Thank you for sharing your experience with us and sending in lovely feedback.

I am pleased to learn of the compassion and kindness your daughter received while on ward 231.

I have shared this with nursing, therapies and domestic teams in ward 231 and they all feel a great sense of pride.

I hope your daughter's recovery is going well at home.

Best wishes

Joseph
