"Elderly mother with dementia"

About: Adult Community Services / Community Social work/care Royal Victoria Hospital / Care of the Elderly (Ward 5E)

(as a relative),

I just want to tell you the story about my mum, who is in her 90s. Mum came into ward 5E in the Royal Victoria hospital after a fall. This was mum's 2nd stay in hospital after only getting out 2 weeks earlier. In total mum was in for 2 months.

I have found this to be quite an emotional time, with many ups & downs. I have only praise for the help & support given to both mum & myself from the doctors & nurses etc. I don't know what myself & mum would have done without Fionnuala, our Social worker.

Fionnuala helped guide us along a unknown path that is at times quite overwhelming & full of emotion. I have been my mum's carer for years & to realise I could no longer do this & not give her her wish of remaining in her own home has been quite hard to bear.

Fionnuala has always been very knowledgeable & also very understanding of our situation. We have found mum a good care home near my house. We both really appreciate the time & effect by everyone to get mum out of hospital.

Dear lacertaxq67

Thank you very much for your kind words. It is reassuring to hear that despite an emotional time for yourself and your mum staff were able to make this easier for you.

I will ensure these comments are shared with the team and with Fionnuala.

I hope your mum is settling well into her new care home.

Kind regards

Rebecca

Thank you so much for taking time to respond about your experience - we know how challenging a time like this can be and I am so glad to hear that the social worker Fionnuala has been so helpful to you and your Mum at this time - We will pass this very positive feedback on to the team and Fionnuala and they will really appreciate that you have taken time to share. Glad to hear your Mum is closeby to you now and hope that things will be more settled.

Best wishes

Eileen Mckay
