I was referred for a precautionary ECG by my GP, who provided me with a list of the various locations around Edinburgh which provide the service. As the Western General Hospital was closest to my home, I called the appointment line and was quickly allocated a suitable date and time by the friendly lady who answered.
I arrived early for the appointment, so went for a cup of tea in the cafe located within the Anne Ferguson building. The lady serving was incredibly cheerful, even though she relayed that she had worked a '12 day week', and no doubt brings a smile to the faces of many patients, visitors and healthcare professionals.
I then sought directions to the ECG department at the main door reception and the receptionist clearly explained the way.
When using the facilities however, I noticed a faulty tap within the gents toilet near the main door.
On arrival in the ECG department, I was greeted by a member of staff who took the referral sheet, provided by my GP, and asked me to take a seat in the waiting area. While I was still early for the appointment, my name was called within a couple of minutes by Paul, who immediately introduced himself and led me through to a small room for the ECG.
Paul explained the procedure and I was soon wired up for the test, which only took a few minutes to complete. He then assured me the ECG had shown nothing of concern and then offered to either pass the results directly to my GP or provide me with a form to hand in on my next visit to my local medical practice.
All in all, an extremely efficient service provided by a team of dedicated staff. Thank you.
"Extremely efficient service"
