I attended Gartnavel Eye Hospital on in January 2014 for an emergency retina attachment. I have expressed my appreciation thus on their Facebook and Google pages -
'Just here to express my appreciation for Hannah and the rest of the staff - nurses, doctors, porters, cleaners - who looked after me during my retina operation yesterday. Not everyone at Gartnavel is a people person of course, but the care and expertise I received was wonderful. NHS at its best, thanks guys. '
I would have liked to expand on this with the hospital directly but it seems the only options are (a) anonymous feedback, which I think is not appropriate, or (b) a complaint, which is not relevant - well I do have a minor gripe about an incident that occurred when I was in a subliminal state and got a jocular lecture about taking over the room and leaving tissues on the floor. All harmless, but I feel that robust wit is best left to the consultants (channelling, as is traditional, James Robertson Justice in the 'Doctor' movies) - and while the patient is fully conscious.
Whine over, I am deeply grateful to all the staff, and especially to Dr McGowan for his skill, tact and patience. And the chap at the Outpatient Reception desk a week later has the patience of a saint, and remained polite when I was a bit impolite regarding the queuing arrangements (indeed all the reception staff are friendly and efficient).
Excellent staff throughout, excellent hospital.
I have been paying tax in six decades and if anyone asks for an example of tax money being used wisely I will use Gartnavel Eye Hospital as an example.
