"Encouraging and supportive"

About: Bromley Healthcare / Talk together Bromley (IAPT)

(as a service user),

I’d been suffering with OCD since I was a child but I only realised I had it at the beginning of last year, when I hit a really low point following a relationship breakdown. The intrusive thoughts were relentless and I felt like there was no escape from my brain, so I reached out to my GP for support. I was prescribed Sertraline and put on a waitlist for CBT.

The medication was really helpful as it gave me a sense of control whilst I waited for therapy, and I’ll continue to take it for the foreseeable. I had my first CBT session last November and received 15 sessions, which I only finished last week. I was very anxious going into CBT, but Ambreen put me at ease and helped me to take the shame out of the intrusive thoughts. She spent time getting to know me and helped me build up to the more distressing intrusive thoughts throughout the sessions, encouraging me to confront things I was avoiding but always in a supportive way, which I needed.
