"Disabled Parking outside Accident Department"

About: Royal Bournemouth Hospital

I attended the Accident Department with my husband am Sunday 23 March who needed to be seen, who has a Blue Badge. The Parking spaces were full and occupied with many cars that Were Not displaying Blue Badges. My husband who is nearly 80 had to hobble in on his own and the later on had to attend For an XRay on his own as I could not find a parking space, otherwise I would have been able to push him in a chair. It was not until I had been there a nearly an hour that a space became available for me to park. This space was vacated by a car that had not been displaying a Blue Badge. Surely the park should be regulated or have a big sign to say about Disabled parking.

This morning was very frustrating for both of us, as I could not assist my husband as movement is very difficult for him.

Dear Anonymous,

I am so sorry to hear that you had such difficulty parking in the allocated disabled parking bays when you and your husband visited the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

These spaces are designated for Blue Badge holders and I am sorry that someone parked there who did not display one. The Car Parking Team do their best to try and monitor the disabled bays to ensure they spaces are used appropriately, however they do not always have the staff to do this constantly. It is such a shame that people are not considerate enough to use the correct spaces to park and I am so sorry for all the inconvenience and challenges that this caused.

Should you need to visit with your husband again and the allocated disabled parking bays are full, then you can park in the normal car park and take your ticket and your blue badge to the Car Parking Office (situated outside the Jigsaw Building by the West Wing entrance, near the multi-storey car park). The Car Parks Team will validate your ticket so that if you are tax exempt you will not have to pay to park.

I am so sorry for the experiences you had in March, your frustrations are understandable.

Please accept my apologies on behalf of University Hospitals Dorset

With Kind Regards

The Patient Experience Team
