"I had a head-on crash"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

I was driving through our village when an oncoming van crossed over into my lane and crashed into the front of my car.

Because of my lack of height I have to sit fairly close to the steering wheel and hit it just before the air-bags inflated.

When I saw what I thought was smoke, I tried to open my door but it was jammed. A man told me it was just air-bag powder. My car was equipped with side bags and was also able to send out an SOS.

Quite soon, I was surrounded by a fire-engine, two police cars , two ambulances and vehicle pick up trucks. I was very fortunate also that it happened outside new neighbours who also happened to be paramedics.

Then the pain set in across my chest, which I still have. A lot of bruising is appearing daily and the front of my legs are badly bruised from knee to ankle.

The incident keeps flashing back to me.

I had instant care at A&E Exeter, and am very grateful for it . Everyone was very kind and caring and very professional. Thank you, A&E RD&E Exeter!
