"The care on the ward was amazing"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Accidents & Emergency Antrim Area Hospital / Emergency Surgical Unit (EMSU) Antrim Area Hospital / Surgical Elective Unit

(as a service user),

Admitted through ED to lovely single room within ED Dept.  Got to stay there approx 2 hours when moved to a trolley in EMSU where I uncomfortably spent the night.

Was moved to Surgical Elective Unit on the Monday morning.  The care on this ward was amazing.  Cant sing the praises of Caitlin and Jamie-Leigh high enough.  Nothing too much bother for either of these nurses and all done with a smile.  I wish all staff were like this.  They really do make your stay more pleasant.

You hear nothing but complaints about local hospitals.  Apart from maternity, I have never been an inpatient and over all I couldnt speak highly enough of my care.

Hi january43,

My name is Nuala O'Connell and I am the ward manager on C3 and EMSU,

I am sorry to hear that your stay in our unit was uncomfortable, this are is an assessment area and this is the reason it accommodates trollies rather than beds. Ideally patients would only spend a short time here before being admitted to appropriate ward but unfortunately due to capacity this is not always the case and patients can end up spending more time in this area than we would like.

I am glad your experience in SEU was more comfortable and I am sure Caitlin and Jamie-Leigh will be delighted to read your post.

Thank you for taking time to post about your experience, all feedback is valuable and we take it on board.

I hope you are recovering well.

Many thanks,

Nuala O'Connell
