"Interventional Radiology VHK"

About: Victoria Hospital / Radiology

(as a service user),

My teenage daughter was very anxious about having a Hickman line fitted at Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy ahead of chemotherapy treatment. Having already had a number of procedures in a short time following a leukaemia diagnosis, she was very nervous and upset about having to go into theatre alone. The team couldn’t have been more supportive. The staff nurse and radiographer (Shona and Katherine) met her on ward and immediately put her at ease with their brilliant sense of humour and empathy, talking her through everything and making sure she knew what was happening. We were taken with her as far as we could go and brought back to meet her coming out of theatre. In theatre, Dr Ashgar’s team (including Emma) kept her spirits up whilst showing compassion and understanding and really made a stressful experience as smooth as possible for our daughter. As parents, we were reassured that she was being well looked after and made to feel cared for when we couldn’t be with her.

Dear gillm80,

My name is Katie Black, I am the Senior Charge Nurse in the Day Intervention Unit. Thank you very much for taking the time to feed back to our team, especially during such a difficult time for you and your family. Shona and Kathryn and their team of nurses will be really pleased that your daughters experience with them was a positive one and she felt fully informed and cared for at all times. We wish your daughter luck with her future treatment.

Thanks again

Katie
