"Kept waiting and worrying about PSA Results by the clinic"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Urology( Ward 70)

(as a service user),

After weeks of worry and issues bouncing around the system following a blood test showing elevated PSA levels I was finally due to get some peace of mind.

I had a virtual (telephone) appointment scheduled with a nurse specialist based at the Glasgow Royal with them giving me an appointment time of 16.00 in mid March. In the run up to this appointment I received two separate texts in the preceding days making sure I knew about the appointment and to get in touch and cancel if I could no longer make it.

These texts also reminded me on each occasion a missed appointment would cost the NHS over £200. Come today at 17.22 as I type this after rearranging a visit from my grand children, with no phone call and left still in the dark wondering if I have an all clear result or a much more serious medical condition, having to wait until goodness knows when for another appointment. All this resulting in unnecessary worry.

It feels wasteful of my time and the NHS resources, I’m also left questioning why the text system that told me not to forget could not have told me the clinic was running late or that you needed to rearrange the meeting til the next day?

Dear Waveydavie,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are deeply sorry to hear about the distress and inconvenience you faced due to the missed virtual appointment with the nurse specialist at Glasgow Royal. We understand how important this appointment was for you, especially given the weeks of worry following your elevated PSA levels.

We apologise for the lack of communication regarding the delay or need to reschedule your appointment. It is unacceptable that you were left waiting without any information, and we understand the unnecessary worry this has caused you.

If you can please contact Suzi Madden, Lead Nurse on 0141 211 8406, with your personal details, they will be able to provide you with an update.

Thank you

Nicole
