"They have treated me like an individual"

About: Cancer Services / Radiotherapy

(as the patient),

I have been attending Radiotherapy at Ninewells for just over a month now and have recently had my last session. I have been really impressed by the nurses here. I cannot fault them. They have treated me like an individual and listened to my grumbles. When I have had an issue or side effects they have always been able to sort out the problem.

I have been really lucky with my appointments schedule and been seen at the same time each morning. It is good to have the same time each day as this is much less stressful than having to organise different times.

I have to say I find the waiting room a little chilly particularly in the winter time and sitting at the back wall is really cold.   So you must avoid that if possible.

Car parking is a nightmare.  My wife brings me in each day - otherwise it would be too stressful for me.

I think more loos would be a great idea. I have never seen anybody have an accident but it has come very close to it on a couple of occasions.   Maybe the female toilet could be used as a unisex one as it is mostly men here.

I think it would be a good idea at the initial briefing at the Maggi Centre if they actually described in their notes that the enema  you have to take each day is mini.  This would save people getting anxious thinking that this was a full enema.

Dear Buidhe1, thank you for taking the time to feedback your experience of our Radiotherapy Department. My name is Bob, one of the Support Workers who would have welcomed you to our department.

It is pleasing to hear that you have been well looked after by our Specialist Oncology Nurses when you have been affected by side effects. I will pass on your kind words to them, thank you. In order that our patients can arrange their lives around appointment times, we do actively try to keep to regular times where possible, and I am glad that this has worked well for you.

Our reception area has, indeed at times been cold and our Estates Department has worked to rectify this. Likewise, car parking is an ongoing issue which our Head of Therapeutic Radiography, Damian Parr continues to take to management meetings.

I would also agree that the toilet facilities in our department are at capacity, which Damian is conscious of. Your suggestion regarding the use of the term ‘micro enema’ at the Maggie’s briefing session is indeed something that may reduce any anxiousness patients might have and this will be passed to our Radiographers who present the session, thank you.

On behalf of everyone here, I hope you benefit from your treatments and wish you well for the future.

Kind regards... Bob
