"Waiting Room concerns"

About: Maternity care / Maternity and Gynaecology outpatient clinics

(as the patient),

Dear Gynaecology outpatient department at Craigavon Area Hospital,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the environment of the gynaecology waiting room at Craigavon Area Hospital. As someone who has struggled with infertility for many years and continues to face challenges, attending appointments in this waiting room is an extremely difficult experience.

Sitting among women who are pregnant, while awaiting care for my own condition, is profoundly painful. The extended waiting times further exacerbate the emotional strain. This is an incredibly insensitive arrangement for women like me and, I imagine, many others who may be going through similar experiences.

I urge the hospital to review this setup and consider implementing changes to make the experience less emotionally challenging. Whether it involves creating a separate space for women dealing with infertility, or managing appointment schedules more effectively to reduce waiting times, any improvements would mean a great deal to patients like myself.

Thank you for taking the time to read my feedback. I hope this matter can be addressed with empathy and care for all patients.

Good morning leopardrt55,

I am very sorry to read of your experience whilst attending the Gynae clinic in Craigavon area hospital. Due to having both Antenatal and Gynae clinics running within the same department, it can be difficult to separate patients as these clinics often run side by side. Accommodation continues to be a challenge within the service at present, I will raise this with senior management and ask that this be taken into consideration for any future revision of services.

In regards to waiting times, we do try to ensure everyone is seen within their allotted appointment time, however, due to Gynae review appointments allocated a set period of time, these appointments sometimes run over and cause a longer wait than we anticipate for patients.

If you would like to have a chat, my office number is 02837562350 and my email address is amy.mcveigh@southerntrust.hscni.net, I would be happy to organize a call to discuss any of your concerns raised.
