"Gallbladder Operation"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Theatres, Recovery & Anaesthetics

(as the patient),

In January 2024 I was having frequent gallbladder flare ups, I had been having these since Sept 2023 (atleast one a month), however January 2024 ended up 3 in one week. On the 3rd flare up I was jaundice and my billiruben levels through the roof & was advised by the hospital I wouldnt be going home.

To add to the mix, I was 13 weeks pregnant. None of our friends or family knew!

This is when the hospital had to do alot of homework and investigation with various other hospital teams to provide me the best options for moving forward. I was given 3 options, but the only one that seemed sensible was to have my gallbladder removed.

Dr Khan ran through all the facts & figures with me on risks to me & my unborn baby. I also had a 4yo at home so made the decision to have my gallbladder removed so I could hopefully go on to live a healthy, pain free life.

The operation involved a laparoscopic bile duct explenadum, and using a spyglass scope allowed Dr Khan to successfully remove a large gallstone which was blocking my bile duct and causing all the pain. Without this scope he wouldnt have been able to get this stone out.

A year later, with an 8 month old healthy baby boy, I am so so grateful to Mr Khan for everything he has done for me.

Still cant believe the cards we were dealt but everything has turned out amazing!

Dear Sjx16

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. You have certainly had a very difficult time and I am so pleased to read that you now have a healthy 8 month old baby boy.

What a journey you have had in terms of decision making and surgery. Mr Khan will be delighted to read your comments and know that you are recovering well. I will ensure that your kind words are shared with him as well as the wider team.

Staff will very much appreciate you taking the time to describe what has happened to you and other people in a similar position may feel reassured that despite difficult cards dealt to you, there has been a good outcome.

I wish you all the very best going forward.

Thank you again

Lise
