"Early pregnancy bleeding"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Maternity care Glasgow Royal Infirmary Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Assisted Conception Services

(as a service user),

I experienced early pregnancy bleeding following a frozen embryo transfer. I understand bleeding can be common in early pregnancy but obviously your mind thinks the worst so I contacted ACS at Glasgow Royal Infirmary to inform them of this.

The nurse on the phone was very dismissive, despite hearing me distressed. I explained that I just wanted some reassurance, asked for a scan and was informed this wasn't done in such circumstances and if I'm feeling unwell to contact NHS24.

I ended up speaking with my own maternity unit at Ayrshire and Arran who couldn't have been more helpful and compassionate. They booked me in for a scan the following morning and I got to see my baby's heartbeat, the reassurance I needed.

I have no idea why the same couldn't be done from the fertility clinic I paid to have treatment done in. As a nurse myself, I would never speak to a patient in the manner I was spoken to.

I have gone on to have (thankfully) a healthy pregnancy, but this was very poor treatment of a pregnant person at such a vulnerable time.
