I was transferred to ward 6B from ward 28 and I was placed in a corridor ‘bed space’. This is consisted of my bed in the corridor at the entrance of the ward with screens at one side. I had no call bell and shared a plug with the person next to me in the same position. I felt very unsafe and exposed in this ‘bed space’. They couldn’t even provide me with a table to have my meals on. There was nowhere to store my items. I was unable to call a nurse when I required analgesia, I had to walk down the ward to find a nurse. I was also on IVABX and when these were finished I was unable to call a nurse to take them down. Nurses only came to me when I was due my antibiotics.
I feel bed spaces in a corridor are unsafe and do not give you any dignity as a patient. It was very loud with the amount of foot traffic constantly going past and there was no bedside light so when the corridor lights went out at night it was complete darkness. This is the not the standard of care that should be accepted and considered normal.
