"The most understanding and supportive team"

About: Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat Royal Alexandra Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat Royal Alexandra Hospital / Same Day Admissions Unit (SDAU)

(as the patient),

I recently had a nearly 4-hour operation on my ear in the Same Day Admissions Unit in the RAH in Paisley. The staff in the ward were amazing with me. I have a phobia and am a really anxious patient, the charge nurse and student nurse really kept me sane throughout the day since my Mum had to sit outside.

My ENT Dr, Mrs MacAndie, is honestly my hero, she has totally changed my outlook on the future of my life. I remember my 1st outpatients appointment going to see Mrs MacAndie and I was absolutely terrified of her, but Julie at Inverclyde hospital outpatients department held my hand and reassured me that all was going to be okay.

I had a Mastoidectomy, Myringoplasty, Meatoplasty and 1/2 ossicular titanium implant placed in my ear. I no longer suffer with sickness, dizziness banging headaches from an inflamed bone and I can ride my pony without a headache and pain stopping me.

Whether the implant works or not, I know Mrs MacAndie is trying her best with me and that's all that matters to me. Hollie, one of the registrars that works with Mrs MacAndie, kept me reassured before the op. The woman in theatre before I was put to sleep was absolutely outstanding - can't remember her name but thank you so much, I was hanging onto you for life being put to sleep. Mrs MacAndie's secretary, Joanne, too has been super understanding of my pain and what's been going on and helping me along the way.

My ENT team truly are my heroes everyone who is supporting and caring for me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I appreciate you all.  Whether the op is successful or not, I am open to more operations and fully expect more operations along the way, but I know I can get through it knowing I have the most understanding and supportive ENT team I could ever have.
