"No access to playroom but overall positive"

I was in a couple of weeks ago with my son who was wheezy.

I must say overall I was pleased with the care I received from the nurses.

The doctors were also excellent and offered my son plenty reassurance.

Thankfully we only had to stay for overnight for one night.

A few things I’d like to point out were housekeeping staff often burst into the room and came across quite rude. Our breakfast tray was also left sitting for hours after breakfast time.

I also asked if my son could access the playroom however was told this was closed. We were given some games for my son to play however once these were given in the morning, play staff never offered to swap the games around and never seemed to be present playing with children.

Would it be an idea to maybe have the play staff offering to let parents off the ward and sit with their child or have a schedule where they do arts and crafts??

It can be a very long day for both parents and children sitting all day so staff allowing parents a break would be lovely.

Overall my stay was positive and I can’t thank the nursing staff enough for helping me and my son.

Dear MumMW

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience and provide some valuable feedback to our team.

I am delighted to hear you and your son were well looked after during your stay, I will share this with the staff on the ward. I do hope your son is continuing to recover.

With regards to the housekeeping staff, I will share your feedback with the management team of this group of staff however I am sorry you had this experience, this is not what we would want for any patient in the ward.

The decision to only open the playroom at certain times e.g for school teaching sessions for long stay patients, was made to ensure there was fair access to all patients. Once again I am sorry your didn't have the option of going into the playroom or have new toys/activities offered, this is not normal practise within the ward. I will link directly with our play staff and share your feedback with them.

As this is an anonymous platform I am unable to identify when you and your son were in the ward. If you wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me directly.

Kind regards
