I came into the maternity unit for a check up due to some issues I was facing. I am a very anxious person and don’t cope well in hospital environments but I have to say that from start to finish, I was made to feel at ease and all the staff were just so lovely.
Even though the unit was busy, staff took the time to come to the waiting room and apologise for the wait. Honestly I didn’t mind, because the waiting room environment was very calming, nice breeze from the window, big tv on.
When a room became available, midwife Shirley did my obs. Shirley is one of the loveliest professionals I have come across and I hope this message gets to her because she managed to make a very stressful experience for me much more pleasant. She clearly cares about her job and the people she cares for. She really listens to understand, not just reply. As a health professional myself, this is the level of empathy, compassion and professionalism that I aspire to.
I also have to mention Gemma who took my bloods and she did so in such a way that I didn’t feel a thing, she was gentle and polite and I am very grateful for her skills.
Lastly, I was seen by a lovely doctor who was covering the unit on her own that evening (unfortunately her name escapes me but I hope the message gets to her). She was very empathetic and a great listener, she was thorough and reassuring at the same time.
A heartfelt thank you for the care I received.
