"Great results"

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital

I'd been struggling with poor sleep for years - in fact pretty much since I had my daughter and she's 33 now - and was referred to the insomnia clinic by my GP. I was sceptical that trying something that initially sounded so simple was going to make a difference. In fact, it turned out not to be so simple for me and the method for resetting was, as I was told it would be when I started, three weeks of exhaustion, more than I'd been experiencing with my poor sleep. I was doubtful it was going to work and at the end of the three weeks I decided I just couldn't do any more if I was asked to.

But, what I found was that it changed my attitude to sleep, and the information I was given about sleep in general, and that insomnia wouldn't cause dementia and all the other things we read in the press about lack of sleep, has stopped me worrying about it. That is a big thing!

The end result is that, although my sleep isn't continuously wonderful (I doubt anyone's is), I'm not spending hours every night awake. I do wake up every night to go to the loo, but that's unsurprising and, for the most part, I get back into bed, go straight back to sleep and wake up at what is a reasonable time for me.

The initial programme and the follow-up appointments I had have made a huge difference and I'm incredibly grateful for the help and advice. So, a huge thank you to my GP for referring me and for an incredibly helpful service from the Insomnia team at Royal Surrey Hospital!
