"Lack of support and communication from my consultant"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Gynaecology (Ward 13)

(as the patient),

I have been under the care of a Urogyn consultant at Wishaw Hospital for the last 2yr+ due to a complete Procidentia following the birth of my daughter 6yrs ago!!

My condition has gradually got worse over time and I feel like the consultant has neglected to recognise the severity of my condition. I have seen numerous nurses, GPs, Consultants and doctors at On Call wards, all are extremely visually shocked at the severity of my condition. In the words of the nurse who performed a procedure I'm walking around with the head of a baby hanging out my vagina between my legs all the time. I have tried 12+ different pessaries, none have helped this long term and some have even made symptoms worse, including causing extreme discomfort and emotional/mental trauma.

I was eventually placed on an urgent list for surgery last September, however still have heard nothing. My quality of life has been severely affected, as has my work life and also my mental health, but also the emotional health of my child due to me being a single parent and physically unable to enjoy life as I'd like.

I am dealing with pain, visible prolapse through all clothing apart from a dress, toilet issues, and this is all severely affecting my mental health. I can not go on like this!

I have constantly been seeking support from my GP, who are also concerned and sent several letters to my consultant, and only ever receive a generic response from the consultant's secretary stating it has been passed to them, yet I receive no communication from the consultant!

All GPs are now unsure as to how to support me much more. I have also had district nurses see me, who again are completely unable to support me and all refer me back to my own consultant, yet I feel I am not receiving the support from them.

I have then been told by the consultant's secretary that if my symptoms have got worse to be referred by my GP to the Wishaw Gyn on-call ward. However, I go there and they have no clue what to do with me.

I feel it is completely unfair for me to be living like this due to an issue that happened following the birth of my daughter! I need answers and I need Surgery urgently - but what's frustrating me most is the complete lack of communication from my consultant! This is completely unacceptable and leaving me worried that this is the person who will be carrying out this severe surgery! Someone needs to contact me due to the severity in my situation ASAP.

Update posted by Women1 (the patient)

Hello

I feel like no one is listening to the severity of my situation, I already dealt with patient affairs months ago and they did not provide me with support.

Dear Women1

I am sorry to hear that despite contacting patient affairs you still feel you have not been supported.

As care opinion is a confidential service I would be unable to provide any further update as I am not in a position to review your history.

I can only suggest reaching out again to patient affairs with your further concerns so this can be reviewed.

Best Wishes
