"Emergency surgery within 3 hours"

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

In early January I was on my way to pick my daughter up from her dads in Guildford. I'd been suffering lower abdominal pains all day. I didn't end up picking my daughter up but ended up in Royal Surrey County Hospital A&E.

The A&E staff were amazing. They were able to fit a cannula first time (I am very hard to cannulate). Within 2 hours of arriving in A&E I had seen a surgery doctor/consultant and was seeing a surgeon and within 3 hours of arriving I was prepped and on my way to theatre where they found I'd had adhesions from previous operations and also a twisted bowel!

I was very well looked after in recovery and 1 recovery nurse was my mum’s friend, struggled with pain & sickness so was given a lot of morphine & cyclizine in recovery then was eventually taken up to Compton ward about 1am on Tuesday morning.

The surgeon himself came & saw me on Tuesday morning & said if I was still in pain he wanted to take me back to theatre.

But I was discharged on Wednesday but back within 1 hour of being discharged because I was in agony. I was admitted again and spent another 2 days on Compton ward where I was discharged on Friday evening.

Now although I am still in pain I have received very good care, from the A&E staff to the surgeon and the staff on Compton ward, but I am a bit unhappy with the doctor I was under due to them not taking me back down to theatre, like the surgeon suggested, if I was still in pain.
