Dear Nuttys80,

I’m John Barron, Service Manager for Urgent and Emergency Care. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion. I am sorry to read about your poor experience and long wait in the Emergency Department.

Unfortunately, the entire Health and Social Care System has been under significant pressure over the winter period and as a result this often results in long wait times.

I’m sorry your pain was not managed effectively in the department and you felt forgotten about. I want to assure you that effective pain management is given a high priority as part of our Emergency Department clinical standards and we will continue to audit our performance in pain management. We do strive to treat each patient with care and compassion through all stages of their journey in ED.

I am saddened to read that you saw staff behaviours which you felt were unprofessional. This certainly falls short of the professional conduct we would expect our staff to consistently uphold. I can only apologise this has been your experience. I will highlight your story to the team as a learning point to improve awareness amongst staff going forward.

I hope you are currently well and have made a full recovery.

Kind regards

John

I am still receiving the same treatment in a&e and my anxiety when I go is unmanageable especially as they won't allow me access to my prescribed medical cannabis.
