Urgent Cataract Waiting list

About: Belfast City Hospital / Ophthalmology Downe Hospital / Cataract Surgery Service Outpatients Services / Ophthalmology Outpatients

(as the patient),

I'm placed on the urgent waitlist last April for cataract surgery . Have had no follow up or information. re: wait times. 

The referral was made from Specsavers in April 2024. They recommended i do a follow up. Which was done on March 3rd 2025.

I had slight vision at the first assessment but now I've no vision in this eye whatsoever, I'm incapable of differentiating between colours or lights. 

I already have diagnosed anxiety and this vision loss and not knowing when I could be seen is not helping this. 

I would be very grateful to hear from you

I am sorry for the delay in responding to your story. Unfortunately our waiting times for Cataract can be quite lengthy,

Can make contact with the waiting list office on 02896 157100 so that we can look into getting you an appointment.
