"Prostate Cancer"

About: Cancer Services / Radiotherapy Ninewells Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

I had minor symptoms and saw my GP in July. He wasn’t happy with his physical examination and referred me to Urology at Ninewells. I had a PSA test on the same day as I saw my GP (later revealed as 11). MRI scan followed, then biopsy. Cancer was confirmed - Gleason score 4+5 (which was frightening), locally advanced grade 3 (spread to one lymph node).

Bone scan and CT scan followed - no other spread. Started hormone therapy tablets and injections at end of September and Abiraterone tablets etc in November.

Started radiotherapy in February and finished it in March. I have had tremendous treatment from day one and I am particularly grateful to all of the staff in the radiotherapy department of Ninewells whose care has been exceptional.

Dear aprilej49, thank you for taking the time to feedback your experience of our Radiotherapy Department. My name is Bob, one of the Support Workers who would have welcomed you to our department.

It is particularly pleasing to hear that you prior to attending our department, you received ‘tremendous’ treatment which continued though your radiotherapy treatments. I will pass on your kind words to our Therapeutic Radiographers, thank you.

On behalf of everyone here, I hope you benefit from your treatments and wish you well for the future.

Kind regards... Bob
