"The staff blew me away"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency North Devon District Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter came right from her surgery to A&E with very dry nappies, very lifeless and no energy. The A&E at Barnstaple was so busy but Mike the doctor was fantastic and so caring and got her checked and right up to Caroline Thorpe ward.

Once we got there, the staff was so kind and helpful, offering us drinks and a room right away. The staff blew me away, the kindness the ladies and male doctors gave me and my daughter through the day and night and the early morning with a present and card from the ward as it was her birthday.

We got discharged in the day by another 2 kind and lovely ladies, one of them also being a student. Thank you to all of the team, the one of the most worrying things in life being a parent seeing your child unwell and they all acted so fast and reassured me every step of the way.

Thank you so much Laurey97 for sharing your feedback. As a nurse, I truly understand how frightening it can be to see your child unwell, and I'm so glad to hear that the team made you and your daughter feel cared for and supported during such a stressful time. Mike, and the medical and nursing team are committed to providing the best possible care, and it’s wonderful to know that they were able to offer reassurance and compassion when it was needed most.

It’s also great to hear that the student nurse, alongside the other staff, made a positive impact on your experience. Student nurses play such an important role in the care we provide, and I’m sure your feedback will mean a lot to them as they continue to learn and grow in their profession.

I’m especially glad to hear that the team made your daughter’s birthday special, and that the kindness and attention continued throughout your stay It's not nice being admitted to hospital at any time let alone on a birthday so we are glad that her gift and card made it a little more special despite not getting to celebrate how you initially planned! We hope you and your daughter managed to enjoy some birthday cake when you were discharged!

Your gratitude means so much, and I will be sure to pass along your kind words to everyone involved in her care. Thank you again for trusting us with your daughter’s health and well-being. We are all wishing her a smooth recovery and are happy to have made a difference for you both.
