"I feel basic care was lacking"

About: General Surgery / Elective Surgery (Ward 7 & 8)

(as a service user),

I was admitted for a relatively minor planned procedure under GA with an overnight stay. Care generally was excellent.  The only real negative was some of the staff I encountered. I was bed-bound with a catheter and a drip and hadn’t been up since the procedure. The controls on the bed weren’t working so I couldn’t adjust it.

I was in a side room and at some point the nurse call button had been left on the cabinet out of reach.  No-one offered to help me settle for the night or checked I was comfortable.

There was loud chat and laughter from some staff until about midnight when the corridor lights were turned off and it went quiet.  I feel basic care for patients seemed to be lacking on this occasion.

Dear Seillean,

I am very disappointed to read that your care experience with us fell below what we would expect to deliver on this occasion and would like to apologise.

If you would like to contact me on samantha.edmonds@nhs.scot, with more detail I can look into this to ensure this doesn't happen to other patients in future
