"Pushed me into the right mindset to fight my cancer"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Breast Services Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Cancer Services (Medical Oncology) Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Radiotherapy NHS Grampian / North East Scotland Breast Screening Centre

(as the patient),

I found a small lump in my breast, after visiting the breast clinic I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Started my chemo a month after being diagnosed and the anchor ward was amazing, made me feel at ease while getting treatment, answered any questions I had, really looked after me.

When chemo was finished I then went for a lumpectomy and removal of some lymph nodes, was cancer free just in time for Christmas! Much to my kids' delight. Then started the new year with 3 weeks of radiotherapy and while the travel in everyday got a little tedious the team looking after me there was again fantastic, answered any questions, checked how I was doing daily.

They made sure I rang the bell on my last day which was met with clapping and cheers from staff and patients across the centre. I still go in occasionally for injections etc and everyone remembers you and makes small talk.

I cannot fault all the staff I've met over the whole journey, keeping me upbeat and always looking forward, it really pushed me into the right mindset to fight my cancer.
