Detox completed Feb 2025. I have attempted a few private detoxes before in the past and it has felt like a challenge and were difficult and that I was not in control and due to this, resulted in me going back and using substances. I came to realise that after a series of life events that affected me, I told my family that I wanted to try another detox again, but this time I was ready.
I came to HMP Leeds, lost my wife, lost my children and my family and this was not what I wanted. I put an app into my dart worker who referred me to healthcare SMS. I got a visit from SMS and dart who discussed with me a plan. I decided I was going to take it slow as I had the time. I was able to reduce my methadone to 2ml a week. I though 5ml a week first but after decided this might be too much. When I got to 6ml on my methadone I did feel slight twitches and leg pain but this subsided.
I was supported through my detox from dart and SMS, their acknowledgement and praise were welcomed and this encouraged me more. I was offered some medication at the end of my detox, I did not take it as I felt I did not need it.
While detoxing I needed to keep myself busy and attended maths, gym and work as well as always thinking about my reasons why I want this detox to be successful and for my mindset to stay positive.
Thank you for the help.
