"Shaken by biopsy results but relieved to be well looked after"

(as the patient),

I had my urology appointment with RN Kat to discuss my results from my transperineal prostate biopsy. Kat was fantastic with explaining what was found with the biopsy and what everything meant. It was not the outcome we could hope for, it is cancer.

Kat took the time, and her empathy in talking to me was such a help to digest all the information and emotions. We talked about possible treatments and what the next step on this journey will be.

Kat understands that it's not just physical but a mental health adjustment to receive such a diagnosis. She was very supportive and helped me with lots of information, support groups, and those questions that seem strange to ask when it comes to men's health. Kat also reassured me that the whole urology team is always there for me and any help that I may need.

I came away from the appointment feeling shaken due to the cancer diagnosis but also relieved  that I am getting well looked after by Kat and the urology team.

SCN Jackie, you really have a great team, I am so relieved to be in the team's care. Thank you.

Thank you taking the time to post on care opinion and provide your lovely feedback. I am sorry to hear that your diagnosis was not the outcome you expected.

It is reassuring to know how supportive and helpful Kat was to you during this difficult time, it is a lot to digest and can be overwhelming. It is very important that time is given to be able to discuss what it all means and what the next steps may be, empathy and holistic care are essential during this time, and Kat has done just that for you.

There is a lot of support there should you wish to use it, and as Kat has said, the team are all there if you need any help.

I will ensure to share you feedback with Kat and the rest of the urology team.
