About: Maternity care / Delivery suite Maternity care / Maternity Admission/Assessment Unit

(as a service user),

My son was born in Craigavon Area Hospital. This was my first baby. My waters broke 2 days before at 11am and I was told I would have to be induced 24 hours later as my risk of infection would go up. However I didn’t end up being induced until 38 hours later. This then lead to me having to get an emergency c section as I did get a bad infection and became very sick and baby was in distress. This was an extremely scary time for me and my partner and I definitely wish my first time having a baby didn’t end up like this.

However, I cannot thank every one of the midwives that cared for me in the delivery ward enough, I cannot fault the care they gave me and still 3 months later I think of them and how amazing they were to us. They were called Aideen, Maeve, Rishona, Francesca and Angela. I would really love them to know how much I appreciated their care and compassion. I actually remember in amongst all the chaos before being sent for the emergency c section, Aideen comforting my partner as he was overwhelmed and scared for me and our baby, I know he appreciated this just as much as I did.

They were all so kind and honestly got us through a long and hard labour/delivery. Also a special mention to Leeann who was also working that morning and held my hand and comforted me as I was being prepped for my c section. My birth experience was not what I wanted to happen to me but without all these amazing women it would have been much harder. Even though I’m sure they won’t remember me, I really hope they get to know how thankful me and my partner are!

Firstly congratulations on the birth of your baby.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide your feedback. I am sorry to learn that your initial experience was not as you had wished and appreciate that this must have been a daunting time for you and your partner.

I am delighted to read of the care that the midwives provided to you and how they supported and reassured you and your partner during birth and labour. I will ensure that this feedback is shared with all the staff named within.

Regards

Oonagh Campbell Kelly
