"Separation anxiety and toilet training"

About: Public Health Nursing / Health Visiting Service

(as a service user),

We have been under Michelle HV(Magherafelt area) for over three years now! No matter the situation Michelle has been amazing, even to the point she has gave me advised for my eldest when she has been discharged for HV services.

Recently I have been having a tough time with my little girl (2) who I was unaware was struggling with separation anxiety, her two year review was due and Michelle brought us in to do all the normal checks and I had explained what was going on at home with my little girl. Michelle gave me great advise on how to over come this and made me feel such a relief that this was so normal and could be overcome by doing simple but effective things throughout the week which within a short space of time (two weeks) has turned my clingy, emotional, shy little girl into a little girl who is trying her best to explore and not depend on mummy as much and we as a family can see her starting to get a little sparkle back into her eye as she is slowly learning that I her mummy will never be to far away.

It also just happened to be that the day Michelle rang my little boy (3) was having a total melt down over toilet training, I explained to Michelle that this was my 6th attempt within a time frame of trying and it had got to the point he was blank point refusing to even put underwear on ( I was literally considering getting help to get him potty trained at this stage as the stress it was causing us both was to much) Michelle over the phone told me not to panic that little boys can be harder to potty train and to remember to reward the good behaviour or attempts towards the toilet!

The next day we were in with my little girl getting her review as Michelle had pulled some resources for me to help me and my son on his potty training journey. So home I came with books and more great advice feeling defeated but determined I was going to stick to it this time. What can I say, Michelle’s words of wisdom and resources and two days in after many many failed attempts my little boy has smashed potty training!

Michelle has always went over and above, she has always been available to take a call or answer a text message and I will be forever grateful of her non judgmental help. Honestly I could not have asked for a better Health visitor!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this fantastic feedback for your health visitor Michelle. I am delighted to read of the compassionate care and support you have received during a particularly tough time when your little girl was experiencing separation anxiety and when your son was toilet training. Lovely to read Michelle has gone over and above and that you value the support and advice from the health visitor.

I will ensure your story is shared with Michelle and the health visiting team, I know they will be really pleased to receive this feedback. Your kind words mean a great deal to us.

Best wishes to you and your family
