I arrived at the health centre and was directed to where I needed to wait. They were running a bit behind so I had to wait an extra 20 minutes but I didn’t mind as I wasn’t in a rush. A nurse came and got me when it was time for my appointment and introduced me to the doctor who was doing my toenail surgery. They were both very nice and friendly and talked me through what would happen, helping me to feel calm and ease any anxieties or uncertainties. The nurse made sure I felt comfortable in the chair and that I was ready for the procedure to start. While I was being administered the local anaesthetic she talked me through a breathing exercise to help with the sharp pain from the needle. I chatted to the doctor and nurse while we waited for the anaesthetic to take effect, feeling relaxed. The doctor then checked to make sure I was fully numb by gently prodding my toe. During the surgery the nurse informed me of the aftercare required like how often to change dressings etc. The surgery was quick and afterwards the doctor demonstrated how to dress the toe. He gave me a supply of gauze, bandage and tape to dress my toe along with information leaflets on aftercare and what to expect post-surgery. Overall I had a very good experience.
