"Excellent maternity care"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care) Dr Gray's Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I just wanted to take the opportunity to praise the team that looked after me at Dr Grays and Aberdeen Maternity Hospital during pregnancy and delivery who were all fantastic.

My community midwife, Catherine, was always kind, approachable and made sure I was looked after during my pregnancy. I never felt like anything was any trouble and I felt totally confident in her care.

On a couple of occasions I had to attend ward 3 in Dr Grays and the staff I met were kind, friendly and delivered excellent care. They never made me feel like I was a burden, even when I could see they were busy, and they always took the time to explain what they were doing and let me ask questions. Any time I have had to call for advice they have always helped.

I had my baby in Aberdeen and needed an emergency section. The midwives and medical staff who looked after me were fantastic, and even though it was a rush to get things done, they all kept calm, did their best to explain what was going on and make sure I was OK. Because of their expertise my baby was born safely.

All of the staff on the postnatal ward (midwives, healthcare support workers, medical staff, students and domestics) were also kind and looked after me and my baby very well, and I never felt like I couldn't buzz for help if I needed it.

The only negative was having to travel so far in labour to get to Aberdeen.  It was a worry throughout my pregnancy about what would happen if I didn't make it to the hospital in time etc.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on the care that you received.

I am pleased to see that you had positive experiences with your community midwife, in Dr Gray's Hospital and in Aberdeen Maternity Hospital.

Sorry to hear that the thought of travelling to Aberdeen caused you anxiety in your pregnancy, I am glad to know that when your baby was born the travel did not cause a problem.

Enjoy your new baby, and I will ensure the team here in Dr Gray's are made aware of your feedback.
