"Hospital maternity waiting area needs help"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

Sat in maternity waiting area ( makeshift waiting area on seats at the lifts beside main doors)… sat waiting for nearly 5 hours with my wife who has recently had a c section and was told to come down urgently to get checked out for pains and issues after surgery . I had plenty to keep me occupied as every time somebody came to use the 1 out of 2 lifts which was  the only 1 working … I had to hold the door closed so the lift would actually work … this place is completely unfit for purpose with ten facilities and the staff .

Thank you for taking time to provide your feedback. I am sorry to learn of your unpleasant experience and that your wife had to wait 5 hours. If you would like to discuss the timeframe for assessment within the admission room please feel free to email me with your contact number and I will endeavor to get back to you as soon as possible.

Due to the infrastructure of the unit and the recent installation of the CT scanning suite, unfortunately the seating area for admission and assessment unit was required to be relocated to its current area outside the lifts.

Kind regards

Hi Oonagh

We actually had to ring down again the following night because my wife was in agony. I was told well if you want to come on down but there is a wait and you will be seen when there is time.

I rang a different hospital straight away and they said absolutely come on ahead we will be waiting… To which lovely midwife’s and 1 doctor went above and beyond and actually done the most obvious thing and scanned my wife to see what was wrong… In and out in under 2 hours with diagnosis and all along with the reassurance of the problem.

We felt very much palmed off the night before. All I’m saying is the way Craigavon is at the minute doesn’t work, and it’s clear to see.
