"Waiting time for DEXA scan"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Fracture Clinic (orthopaedics) Royal Alexandra Hospital / Osteoporosis Service Scarborough General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a service user),

In July 2024 I had a tri-maleolar fracture and dislocation of my ankle while walking on the coastal path at Flamborough Head. I cannot praise highly enough the paramedics of Yorkshire Air Ambulance, the staff of Scarborourgh hospital and nurses at the Fracture Clinic in the RAH Paisley.

However, I was told at the time I would need a DEXA scan. I received a letter in September from Fracture Liaison Service at RAH Hospital in Paisley saying I would “be sent an appointment in due course”.

I am still waiting on this appointment and I am worried regarding the fact that if I do have osteoporosis it will be progressing while I do not have access to the required medication.

Hi Mercurykt34,

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are pleased to hear that you received excellent care from the staff at Scarborough Hospital, and the nurses at the Fracture Clinic. We will ensure that your kind words are shared with the teams involved, as they will greatly appreciate your feedback.

We understand your concerns regarding your DEXA scan appointment. As this falls under the care of the Fracture Liaison Service at RAH Hospital in Paisley, we are unable to comment on the waiting times. However, we would encourage you to contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) or the relevant patient support team at RAH Paisley for further assistance.

If there is anything else related to your experience with York and Scarborough Hospitals that we can support you with, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Best wishes,
