"Patients are in good hands"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary / Cardiology Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a service user),

I read the reviews about Hull Royal Infirmary and I decided to write one. I think the ambulance staff are absolutely wonderful, they are kind and very patient and extremely good at their jobs and very hard working and very thorough and yet tested continually, sadly,  by too many patients with behavioural issues. Staff are totally compliant to governing regulations.

The nursing staff are overworked and deal with the same behavioural issues, mostly caused by drink and drugs, and nurses are definitely under appreciated yet still manage to be kind and make patients smile. I saw a patient continuously talking of suicide and the paramedics and nursing staff were just wonderful with them. They look rushed off their feet but they never complain.

In all my procedures every member of staff did their job with kindness and with interest in me as a patient. I didn't feel rushed. Their bedside manner is warm and helpful. I have to give it to the cleaners too, the place is very clean under difficult cramped conditions - ie too many patients.

The doctor I saw looked tired, I expect he had done a long shift. But was still absolutely marvellous and not jaded and sorted out my health issues, warmly and professionally and was not judgemental. He was kind. Patients out there are in good hands.

The staff in the NHS are doing their utmost to follow their calling. A patient mentioned fetching not getting their water. My nurse fetched me tea and a chicken sandwich, she asked me, not I her! But they aren't waitresses, they are there to help us get well and are run off their feet.
