"Birth experience"

About: Inverurie Hospital / Midwifery

(as the patient),

Had the most amazing experience at Inverurie! Arrived at 4:30am to be examined by Helen who said we were ready enough to go through to the birthing suite and get the birthing pool filled.

We were both offered tea and toast and had a midwife with us pretty much the whole time to keep an eye on progress and to keep an eye on the pool to see it was full enough and the right temperature.

Once it was ready I was helped in and given guidance on a good position while also always getting some positive encouragement. The midwifes were not evasive at all and only when my son was born to help him up the front of me and to get his cord taken off his neck did they step in.

Once he was born I was helped out of the pool onto the bed as I’d lost a lot of blood and they kept an eye on how much I had lost and looked over my son to see everything was ok with him as he was born in meconium as well as the cord round his neck.

We were advised we’d need to go to Aberdeen because of my blood loss. They kept everything calm and made everything quick to get me into Aberdeen. Helen came with me and my son in the ambulance and kept everything calm as not to panic the situation.

We can’t thank all of the midwives at Inverurie enough for all they did and were so glad we got our wish of giving birth in Inverurie! A totally different experience from my other two births in Aberdeen. Also special thanks to Holly my community midwife who put up with me for my whole pregnancy.
