"Falling unwell at the weekend!"

About: Glasgow Community Services / Out of Hours GP NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Royal Alexandra Hospital / GP Out of Hours

(as a service user),

I used 111, for the 1st time, after becoming increasingly unwell recently.  I'd had a cough/cold for coming up to 1 week. I was letting it run its course, but started getting really breathless on minimal exertion. It made me panic when I couldn't catch my breath, which made the breathlessness worse.

I was triaged & referred to OOH Glasgow. I had a return call within around 30 minutes & was offered a face to face 40 minutes later.

I was triaged further, the staff were so reassuring. I then seen the Dr, who didn't rush, thoroughly assessed me & I left with antibiotics,  steroids, an inhaler & plenty of reassurance in case I needed further help.

An outstanding service from start to finish. We really don't know how lucky we are. 5***** to NHS24 & same to RAH OOH service.

I work for the NHS myself, I get no special treatment.  The call handler & nurse had no way of knowing this, unless I told them, which I had no reason to do, the service was outstanding.

In my view, if people used our services properly & appropriately, rather than abuse them, particularly in the OOH period, the availability of services required across the board would be so much more effective & readily available to all who genuinely need it.

Again, we are so lucky to have this service available to us & I feel we should appreciate it more.

I was sorry to learn you had cause to contact the 111 service due to your breathlessness. I understand this must have been a very worrying time and I hope you are now feeling much better and recovering well.

I reply on behalf of NHS 24, I am glad to read of your overall positive patient journey from calling 111 to your Out of Hours appointment.
