I am 79 and suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, high blood pressure and Reynauds disease.
On Sunday, while attempting to make a cake I suddenly felt dizzy and fainted in the kitchen, luckily not depositing the mixture on the floor. My husband was close at hand and insisted I stay out but I tried to get up and the same thing happened so he made a call to 111.
This resulted in an ambulance with paramedics arriving from Honiton in 20 minutes. They were very professional and friendly too, so I felt very confident. After a battery of tests the decision was made to take me to hospital for investigations as I am on a considerable number of different medications.
The process of being admitted was really smooth and I was soon seen by Tannia, a nurse and Abbie, a doctor. They were both brilliant examples of the highest standard of care that I have always received from every department of the hospital over the years. It was impressive to see so many interlinked services operating smoothly between their specialities in such a happy environment.
I was able to end my time there in a positive way with a visit from the consultant on duty and get home by 8pm. There will be a follow up phone call in a couple of days and pass by to my GP to look at changes to my medication.
My husband came to collect me and brought a piece of cake that he had completed as a ‘thank you’.
