"My sister-a stroke survivor"

About: Airdrie Locality Support Service / Social work services

(as a relative),

My sister had a stroke in 2009. In the time since then, her mobility has decreased and after a stay of 8 weeks in hospital over Christmas, she was sent home.

The carers who had been looking after her were excellent. She lives with my mum, who is also a stroke survivor and has dementia and is blind. My mum is still looked after by the original care company and I cannot fault their work. They have lived in their current home for over 50 years so mum knows her way around the house.

But Social Work decided my sister needed 2 carers on each visit, so switched to another company. The company Social Work used are based in Glasgow-about 15 miles from where she lives.

My sister was discharged on a Wednesday, which I had specifically asked not to happen because that is the day when I work. She was sent home without medication and when the new carers came to attend to her, they washed her down with antiseptic toilet wipes 4 times a day for 4 days. My mum's carer contacted me and the community alarm office as her skin was very badly inflamed (for obvious reasons. These wipes kill 99% of terms including salmonella, covid, mess and flu viruses). The carers also told me they hadn't been told to give her her medication.

The next issue, a few days later, was my sister told me her meals were always cold as they were not heated properly in the microwave. A couple of days later, paramedics were in to check over my mum and carers switched on the shower, undressed my sister and put her under the shower without checking the water temperature. The latest thing is that they do not know how to make scrambled eggs in the microwave. These are just a few incidents that have happened and I am not getting any satisfaction from Social Work to get carers changed.
