"Top level care for my daughter"

About: South West Acute Hospital / Emergency Care and Medicine Services South West Acute Hospital / Radiology

(as a parent/guardian),

Unfortunately my toddler had a fall today and fractured her leg. We arrived at A&E at around 6pm and within 2 hours had her x rayed, in a cast and home for bed.

For a busy Saturday night, every member of staff who walked by us, was jolly and greeted us.

We were treated with kindness and understanding by John (nurse practitioner), who helped to calm and reassure my daughter.

Chloe in x-ray made everything as fun as it could be in this situation!

Each waiting area had books and toys to keep my little one distracted.

Thankfully we aren’t frequent visitors to A&E, but on the handful of occasions, we have been more than impressed.

Thank you to everyone for your kindness today.

Dear ClareG87

thank you for posting on this medium, about your experiences, you and your daughter received, while a patient in our department. Feed back to us, is important and reflects how we as a department is performing. As a responder, I would like to make time to respond to your post, on behalf of our department

I am delighted to read how we made your daughters journey, a positive one, and that everyone was jolly and made the experience 'fun'. You mentioned me by name in your post as the seeing clinician, and you commented on how I made your daughter feel by my actions. Thank you for these kind words, which are greatly appreciated.

Finally, I hope all is well and that your little girl is making a steady recovery from her recent injury.

Kindest regards

Dear ClareG87,

My name is Ann Marie Conlon, I am the falls Integrated Pathway Co-ordinator within the Trust.

I am sorry to read that your child sustained a fracture following a fall. I hope that she is making a good recovery at this time.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of attending the Emergency Department in SWAH. It was reassuring to learn that you had a positive experience and that the presence of toys and books in the waiting areas were helpful.

As an organisation we are committed to consistently show kindness, compassion, professionalism and respect to the patients we care for. I am pleased to see that the staff you encountered during your visit were kind, compassionate, friendly and jolly and that Chloe tried to make your daughter's experience in x-ray fun.

I would also like to take this opportunity of making you aware of the council's free home safety check which is available to parents with children under 5 years of age.

If you require further information on this or you wish to share any learning from your daughter's fall that could help prevent falls, please contact the Falls Integrated Pathway on 02871610763.

Many Thanks,

Ann Marie
