I was referred to ambulatory care from dermatology to plastic surgery . The appointment came in less time than expected and all the staff were excellent .
However I think the service could be improved by increasing the pre appointment information . The dermatologist said something about consultation and appointment being on the same day but there was no information on the letter so I wasn’t sure , I checked the web site and that confirmed it but it would be better to say on the appointment letter something like to see the plastic surgeon and receive appropriate treatment. I phoned because I didn’t know if I should eat that morning , the last time I had a similar procedure it was a full anaesthetic- it took me over half an hour to get my phone call answered & all they said was any specific instructions would be sent out prior to the appointment. There was no information about how long the appointment was and whether driving was allowed or prohibited after .
Think it’s a fantastic service but it could be improved by enhancing the pre appointment information. People are anxious and knowing what is about to happen reduces anxiety. An example could be - you will see the plastic surgeon , who will assess and treat you on the same day. Treatment will be by local anaesthetic and you will be discharged straight after . You are advised to bring someone with you to help you home.
On another note you complain about patients failure to attend , it took me half an hour to get through to your appointments line many people would give up
