"My Play Friend"

About: Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Play Service

(as a service user),

My friend Rachel is very kind and funny. She always makes me feel comfortable with my blood tests.

For 3 years I have been going to the hospital for my regular blood tests. I get very scared all the time. At least 3 people used to hold me down as I used to keep kicking and trying to get away. I once collapsed. But one day, I met Rachel and everything changed. No one even has to hold me now. I just sit next to Rachel and we read a book together while the doctor take my blood.

I am still scared about bloodtest but I know my friend Rachel will be there to comfort me so all is good now 😁

Thank you so much for telling us your story. I am so pleased that having blood tests has become a little easier for you. Rachel will be so pleased to know how much she has helped you with this and to read your kind words. All the Play Staff work really hard to help children and young people when they come to the hospital.

I will share your lovely words with Rachel and I know she will be so happy to read them

Thank you
