My whole experience with continuity was nothing short of amazing.
The care and support not only did I receive but so did my partner throughout my whole pregnancy was incredible, this was my first baby and my whole experience was perfect and I couldn’t have done it all without the care from the continuity midwives.
My plan for a home birth was so supported despite a few consultants trying to put me off, the midwives were always there to reassure and keep my confidence in myself high. If it wasn’t for the midwives I wouldn’t have had the confidence all the way through my pregnancy to come out the other side so calm and excited to give birth.
Even when you walk through the doors for all the midwife appointments at the mater, the whole atmosphere just makes you feel like so safe and it’s because of all the midwives, they are so humble and down to earth. In my experience when you’re pregnant you always get horror stories of midwives but the continuity staff completely depleted all of the bad things you hear, they are all so perfectly professional whilst still being a friend and someone you need to hold your hand.
They are at your every backing call and there for you for absolutely anything you need.
My homebirth was able to go perfectly, everything about it went so smooth and to plan and I know it was all because of the work that was put in to make it that way.
A special shoutout to Bronwen who was my main midwife throughout my whole pregnancy, she was absolutely amazing. She had it all planned to perfection. At every appointment, even towards the end of my pregnancy she carried out all my appointments in my home and always no matter what made me feel so comfortable.
When my baby was born it was almost as if he knew exactly who she was whenever she first met him and I know it’s because of the bond she created with me and my bump during the pregnancy. Bronwen is a credit to her job and I am so lucky to have had her during it all, she’ll always be family to us now.
Another special shoutout to Ellen and Aimee. Ellen was with me as soon as my labour started and I am so glad she was. As soon as I first met her it was as if I had known her my whole life, she made me feel so comfortable and safe from start to finish.
From her checking on me making sure everything was okay to her physically holding me in the pool and keeping me calm giving birth to my baby. She was so incredible with me and my family who was with me during my homebirth and still so amazingly professional, I almost forgot she was my midwife because she turned into my friend. She was exactly who I needed during labour and if I needed any reassurance it was her who just needed to look at me and I knew everything was going okay. She kept me calm and confident, so safe whilst being so vulnerable and she made me laugh even though you think labour can’t be funny. It was the most unbelievable experience and I’m so glad she was there for me.
I luckily gave birth just before her shift ended but she even stayed a while longer to make sure that I was okay, I was even a bit raging that she had to go as I would’ve just had her move in with us!
As for Aimee, wow. She arrived just as baby was born and as soon as she came in she was straight over to me to say congratulations. She is an amazing person let alone amazing at her job, she done all my baby’s checks to make sure he was perfect and she was hands on making sure I was all fixed up thoroughly.
Her professionalism alone is nothing short of outstanding, she made my partner feel like cutting the cord was so easy and straight forward as she was so nervous to cut it. Aimee talked her through it and was able to show her and explain my placenta being all fine.
She stayed until she made sure absolutely everything was 100% with me and my baby, she is the most down to earth, incredible midwife and I am so lucky she was the one there for me and my baby when he was born.
I could write a whole book on each of the continuity midwives and how amazing they all are. My whole experience with continuity was perfect and I am the luckiest mummy to have been able to have had that.
Every mummy should be able to have an experience like mines as I will always look back and miss it.
I miss my wee midwives but I’ve gained friends now who are like family and can’t wait until I am able to tell my baby boy his coming into the world story. I cant wait to do it all again with the midwives for all my future babies!
Thank you a million times over to the continuity midwives, I could never have done it without you.
