"Forever grateful"

About: Child and Adolescent Mental Services / CAMHS services Armagh & Dungannon

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was diagnosed with OCD and DCD and has been under the wonderful care of CAMHS in Portadown & Armagh. She did Talking Therapy with Beth and Occupational Therapy with Catherine. I cannot stress enough how appreciative we are of the care, support, kindness and compassion we as a family and my daughter have received over the years.

My daughter has been taught excellent coping mechanisms and above all a real understanding of who she really is and how her neuro diverse brain works. Her self esteem and self worth has massively improved and she is constantly working on understanding and helping herself be the best version she can be.

This is all thanks to the dedication and hard work of these two remarkable women who have had such a positive impact on my daughter's life and who made CAMHS her safe place to be honest, open and vulnerable. My daughter is now being discharged and is the happiest she has been and is growing into a confident, educated, caring and loving young woman able to take on the world with the valuable tools she's been given.

Forever grateful.

Hello

Thank you for taking the time to share your personal story and the journey of your daughters attendance at CAMHS and Occupational Therapy with Care Opinion. I hear from what has been written that your daughter has really benefited from strategies provided and this will always remain with her when discharged and throughout her life.

Each young person is unique in their own way and finding what works for one may not work for another so it is important to individualise the care plan.

Young people do not always receive or need a diagnosis and for some whilst it can be helpful in understanding why someone presents in the way they do it is much better to look at the young person and provide an intervention based on need.

I will share your story with Dr Beth, Catherine and the wider team. I would like to wish your daughter well and I hope she continues on her positive journey.

Regards

Shirley Dennison

CAMHS Manager
