I attended ward 32, RAH, earlier this week for surgery (having been on a waiting list for over 3 years). Arrived to be told no beds. I later learned this was due to non-gynecological patients being effectively 'dumped' there due to a lack of room in other wards. I spent 5 hours sitting in a chair and did finally get surgery but have still not even seen or spoken to the surgeon. I had to ask a nurse what had actually happened during surgery as no one had told me anything. Only at that point did I learn that the cyst I was there to have removed had actually ruptured in theatre. Thankfully dealt with. I left without a discharge letter as they had been too busy to prepare this. Was told it would be mailed out. 4 days on and I've still received nothing. I was given a generic aftercare sheet but this didn't make any reference to the specific procedures I'd had and is honestly worthless.
The staff who cared for me were absolutely fantastic but their hands are tied it would appear, due to a huge lack of funding and support. I feel the NHS is utterly broken and unfortunately, to me, the people on the front line are paying the price. They are doing their very best to give the best possible care that they can but they face an uphill battle.
