(as a relative),

My mum had 2 strokes in a month. She was seen in ED and admitted to the stroke unit for three days. She then transferred to yealm ward for rehab lasting six days. The care she received was beyond expectations. 

The emergency dept dr Fred and nurses and HCA’s from the triage nurse to all staff giving ongoing care was amazing. 

The stroke team nurses came to Ed and were lovely. They were so knowledgeable and caring and personable. Everything was beyond expectations. She was then transferred to the stroke unit. The cleaners, tea ladies, HCA’s nurses and drs were so kind. Mum felt so safe and cared for. 

She was then transferred to yealm ward. The care continued. All staff throughout the next journey was as experienced throughout the patient journey. The OT’s and physios were so patient and kind. We even had a visit from a support dog and volunteer on the unit which helped with mums mood. I would like to thank Cynthia for the care her team provided. 

I have worked in healthcare for 30 years. I know great care when I see it in challenging times. There was nothing more than could have been provided from medical care to personal care. The personal touches laughs and kindness exceed expectations. I firmly believe that Exeter is the best hospital in the south west peninsula. Please please pass on our thanks to everyone involved in mums care. The organisation should be so proud of the care provided. I cannot thank you all enough.

Dear Hopeless Patient,

Thank you for your feedback and kind words about your recent stay in the Stroke Unit and then on to Yealm Ward. We are grateful you have shared your mum's experience with us.

Sometimes working in the NHS can be challenging for all staff groups as every member always makes their best endeavours to serve and provide the best patient care possible. Not all expectations can be met at all the times but the staff strive very hard to try and achieve this as best as they can.

Your feedback will make a big difference to all of the staff who facilitated your mum's stay and helped to provide the best care for her. I will pass your feedback on to my team as it will show appreciation for the job they love doing and will remind them that their work does not go unrecognised.
